(What I do)
I offer knowledge and practical wisdom in a safe and supportive environment that allows the client to see themselves as the experts in their own lives, and become the authors of their own story.
I believe that people in passionate partnership enhance the possibility of moving from problems and ambivalence to action and desired outcomes.
My approach incorporates elements of: Ancient Wisdom/Modern Science, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Systems Theory, Motivational Interviewing and Jungian Psychology. When warranted adventure-based therapy, the arts, indigenous wisdom, and mythology.
I welcome the opportunity to work with you in creating the life you long for. My work is based upon the belief that life will always offer us challenges, and that suffering is not optional. The key is to differentiate between necessary and unnecessary suffering.
If there were truth in advertising in Mental Health very few would undertake this journey of inner education/exploration. What do I mean by this? I mean we live in a consumer culture of quick fixes. With bogus promises of instant results. However, most of us doing the work know this is not the case. We have been waking up to the same demons at the foot of our beds every morning for longer than we care to remember. However, if one is to have a meaningful and joyous life it is a necessary journey to understand the forces that drive our behaviors.
I am too soon old, and too late wise. However, I’ve always known as the great Indian mystic Krishnamurti said “it is impossible to be healthy in an unhealthy society.
There is no quick fix, fairy dust, magical potion, or sudden awakening… The fantasy of our culture is the quick fix- i.e.- six pack abs, millionaire in three steps… those old enough, or wise enough to realize that this is not possible– are welcomed. We each hold the solutions to our problems, and all of us are medicine for ourselves and others. I am here to help.
I seek to blend ancient wisdom and modern science. At this point I must cite the two primary individuals whose work has provided me with the tools, that in part shaped my work. I am indebted to them for their work, wisdom and teachings.
They are: Michale Meade- mosaicvoices.org, and Brain Johnson- heroic.us Both individuals along with others have made ancient wisdom and modern science available and accessible to the masses. To them, I am grateful and acknowledge their pioneering and helpful work. As it is said we stand on the shoulders of those before us. I would strongly recommend and endorse their work; as well as I suggest you check them out. (See list in resources).
